Jamestown, one of the oldest districts of Accra, dates back to the colonial era and played a key role in Ghana\u2019s history. As the homeland of the Ga people, Jamestown is known for its rich traditions and strong connection to the sea. We will drive along the coast, passing Independence Square, before visiting one of the famous workshops where craftsmen create uniquely shaped coffins representing fruits, fish, animals, and other symbolic figures.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The Krobo people, an ethnic group from southeastern Ghana, are renowned for their ancestral bead-making craftsmanship, a tradition that dates back several centuries. Their beads are often made from recycled glass, reflecting an eco-friendly and ingenious process. The glass is crushed and colored using natural pigments. The glass powder is then placed into clay molds and fired in traditional kilns. After firing, the beads are carefully polished by hand using sand and water to achieve a smooth finish.<\/p>

We will visit a Ghanaian family well known for their bead-making expertise, where we will have the opportunity to observe the entire production process, from the workshop to the final display.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Day 4: Akosombo to Kumasi (191km \/ 4h14min) (B, L, D)<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Drive to Kumasi, where two major highlights of the day will transport you into a different world. We expect to arrive in time for lunch. Kumasi is one of the largest cities in Ghana and, most importantly, the historical and spiritual capital of the former Ashanti Kingdom. This powerful nation was one of the most influential in Africa until the late 19th century, when the British conquered the territory and incorporated it into their Gold Coast colony.<\/p>

We will visit the Cultural Centre, home to an impressive collection of traditional artworks displayed within a beautiful reproduction of an Ashanti house. Later, we will attend a traditional funeral ceremony. Mourners are dressed in striking red and black cloths. Although officially called a \u201cfuneral,\u201d the event is a vibrant and meaningful gathering, as the deceased is still regarded as a permanent member of the family. Friends and relatives come together in remembrance, while the chief arrives with his court under a large ceremonial umbrella. Drummers set the rhythm for the dances, whose complex choreography carries deep symbolic meaning.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The Ashanti (or Asante) are an Akan people primarily living in the Ashanti Region of central Ghana. They are one of the most powerful and culturally rich ethnic groups in the country. Their society is known for its centralized political structure, led by the king, the Asantehene, and for its deeply rooted traditions.<\/p>

After breakfast, we will begin the day with a tour of Kumasi, starting with the Ashanti Royal Palace, which houses an impressive museum tracing the history of the kingdom. We will then continue to the Kumasi Central Market, one of the largest open-air markets in West Africa. During the day, we will also have the opportunity to meet a traditional chief in his court, who will introduce us to Ashanti culture and customs.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Fort Carolusborg (Cape Coast Castle), built in 1653 by the Swedes, offers a powerful insight into one of the darkest chapters in human history. More than just a monument, it stands as a lasting place of remembrance, reflection, and education.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Visit to Fort St. George (Elmina Castle). Elmina Castle is the oldest and most impressive European fort in Sub-Saharan Africa. Undoubtedly the most famous, it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and remains the largest historic European structure in the region. Built by the Portuguese in the 15th century, it served as a major trading post for gold, ivory, and enslaved people.<\/p>

Elmina is a name deeply intertwined with the history of West Africa and the wider world. In 1482, explorers including Christopher Columbus and Bartolomeu Dias arrived with several caravels to establish a Portuguese stronghold. The site was considered a major gold trading center, marking the beginning of Elmina\u2019s historical significance.<\/p>

We will conclude the day with a visit to Kakum National Park, where you will experience the famous canopy walkway before returning to the hotel in the evening.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
